Dr. Dara reminded that TB is an air born disease; therefore, everyone is at risk, especially, when immune system is weakened. It is important to fight stigma related to TB, when TB is believed to be a disease of a certain population. People could belong to any social group and still get TB. - Optimal management of TB drugs
- Provide access to TB treatment to everyone (today only 50% of patients have access)
- Prevent development of drug resistance caused by treatment default, selective use of TB drugs, and weak healthcare systems
The danger of drug resistant TB is that it could spread to other people when they are exposed. It makes the treatment very difficult. So the appropriate treatment should start as soon as possible especially in congregate settings like prisons.
